The new mayor of Petrozavodsk

Nikolai Levin will be the new city mayor of Petrozavodsk. The candidate of the United Russia party got a comfortable win in the local city mayor elections.
Mr. Levin, who comes from the post as speaker of the regional parliament, was elected with a total of 58,87 percent of the votes in the July 5 elections.
As reported previously by BarentsObserver, one of the strongest contenders to the townhall position, businessman and member of parliment Mr. Devletkhan Alikhanov, in June decided to pull out of the campaign as a consequence of what he described as United Russia’s abuse of administrative resouces in the elections.
Only 19 percent of the electorate participated in the elections.
