The rigs named the Polyarnoye Zvezda (“Polar Star“) and the Sevenoye Siyanie (“Northern Light“) will both be key components in the development of the Shtokman field.
The construction of the platforms at the Vyborg yard is a clear example of the sucessful cooperation between Gazprom and Russian shipbuilders, Mr Ananenkov said during the visit, a company press release reads.
-For the development of the hydrocarbon riches of the Arctic shelf we do not only need our own drilling and production platforms, but also a hi-tech fleet – ships and LNG carriers, he added.
The Gazprom deputy leader also highlighted that his company also in the future intends to take full use of domestic Russian companies when placing orders. While the Vyborg Yard is constructing the lower parts of the platforms, it will be the Korean Samsung Heav y Industries which constructs the topsides.
