Russian regions doing better than Russia

A new study shows that a major number of Russian regions are doing economically far better than Russia seen as a whole. Of the 38 Russian regions included in the study, 33 had better economic results that the Russian state.

The rating conducted by the Bauman Innovation and the Centre of Strategic Studies, is based on the principles of the international rankings of the World Economic Forum, until now used only on inter-state relations, Gazeta.ru reports. In the study, as many as 33 of the 38 studied Russian federal subjects were ranked better that the Russian state as a whole. The Russian Federation in the World Economic Forum rating is number 71. The best results were achieved in Novosibiskaya Oblast, Tatarstan and in Moscow Oblast. They respectively got position number 45, 47 and 50. The international competitiveness ranking is headed by the USA, Germany and Finland. Had the successful Russian regions existed as independent states, they would have been better off than as part of Russia, Gazeta.ru concludes.
