Head commander of the Russian Navy, Mr. Vladimir Masorin, confirms that the “Bulava-M” submarine-based intercontinental ballistic missile will be put into production. –Huge funding and intellectual efforts have been invested in the creation of this complex, the navy leader stresses.

The decision to put the advanced missile system into production follows a successful test launch in late June this year. The successful June launch followed several failed launches. According to the Moscow Times, four out of six test launches have failed.

In an interview referred to by Newsru.com, Mr. Masorin also confirms that the Typhoon-class submarines, at least by year 2015, will not be rebuilt in order to be able to carry the Bulava-M system. The one exception is the “Dmitrii Donskoy” sub, which is already being made capable of carrying the system.

The new missile system is developed exclusively for the new fourth generation of submarines, the socalled “Borey”-class. The first, long-delayed submarine of the class - named Yuri Dolgoruky - was launched in April.

Mr. Masorin says another two test lauches will be made by the end of 2007 and that all testing will be completed in the course of 2008.
