Putin: border security is top priority

In yesterday’s meeting in the Russian Border Commission, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin underlined that the issue of security along the country’s borders deserves the highest possible attention.

At the same time, the prime minister stressed that Russia open for close and interesting partnership with neighbors within the field of cross-border cooperation, economic cooperation and humanitarian and cultural interaction.

Among Russia’s borders, the ones in the Arctic area are a priority, along with the borders to China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, a government press release reads.

In the Border Commission meeting, Putin also said that an new federal action programme for the country’s borders will be elaborated. The new programme will cover the period until 2016.
