Identity studies

Pan Barentz presents a series of statements, investigations, readings and interpretations made by artists and architects on and of identity in the Barents region, the exhibition website informs. A key focus is questions about identity-formation in the Barents Region, the far northern region stretching over Norway, Russia, Finland and Sweden.

As identities are practiced in public spaces, the artists focus on urban space, city-planning and development trends for Barents cities in the future.

Role of Barents Region

Øystein Rø, a representative of company 0047 and one of the key participants in the exhibition says in an email message to BarentsObserver that the project seeks to elaborate on the role of the Barents Region.

“[…] It is a cloud of ideas and visions about the urban and region conditions in a complex part of the world. Overarching is a discussion about this region’s role in the world. What has it been, what is it about to become and what will it eventually develop into?”, he maintains.

In the centre is issues of resource development, Russian societal changes, transnational processes and the huge potential of the region.
