New gas field smaller than expected

The ”Gro” well in the Norwegian Sea was believed to hide huge amounts of gas. Now operator Shell confirms that the well is a disappointment.
Analysts believed that the “Gro” field could have up to 100 billion cubic meters of gas and thus become a long-awaited big discovery in the area. Now however it turns out that the field is smaller than expected.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate confirms that “Gro” will not be a breakthrough in the Norwegian Sea. An extensive collection of data has been made on the site, the directorate informs in a press release.
The results from “Gro” is a major disappointment not only for operator Shell, but also for the Norwegian government. Minister of Petroluem and Energy Terje Riis-Johansen says to Teknisk Ukeblad that Norway now will have to downscale available resource estimates and that the country eventually also could face problems meeting supply contract made with importers.
-If we do not make significant findings in the time ahead, it will be problematic to deliver as much gas to Europe as we would like, Minister Riis-Johansen told the weekly. –Therefore we have emphasized to give the companies access to areas where the likelihood for significant findings is bigger, he added.
