According to the plans presented this week to the local population by representatives of local authorities and industrial major Kolskaya GMK, the boiler will be built on a new site in the outskirts of the town.
Similar boilers will be built in Zapolyarny and Monchegorsk, two other towns with industrial plants operated by Kolskaya GMK.
Kolskaya GMK, a regional subsidiary of mining and metallurgy giant Norilsk Nickel, is building the new boilers in order to cut costs. The high prices on black oil (mazut) are making the old boilers insufficiently cost-efficient.
