Premier seeks forestry reforms
2007-12-07
Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov at a government meeting this week confirmed that a special council on the management of the Russian forestry sector will be established. The new council will be headed by the premier himself.
According to Mr. Zubkov, the new council will be permanent and include both governors and representatives of federal authorities. All parts of the forest industry from forest felling to processing will be included in the councils work.
-No doubt we have a raw material oriented [forest] industry. Thirty thousand exporters. All kinds of fuss around the forest, corruption on the border to where the timber is transported, the premier emotionally said.
