Fire in nuclear-powered icebreaker
The Russian nuclear powered icebreaker ”Arktika” was this Sunday hit by fire. The fire is reported to have broken in a cabin while the ship was sailing about 120 km from the town of Dikson by the mouth of the Yenisey river
According to B-port.com, the fire was extinguished by the vessel’s own crew. No casualties are reported and no risk of radiation is imminent.
Despite minor damage, the “Arktika” was after the fire aided by the nuclear icebreaker “Taymyr”, which also also was in the area.
An investigation over the incident has been initiated, B-port.com reports.
