EU, Russia met to discuss partnership

Representatives of the EU and Russia this week met in Brussels to discuss a new Partnership Agreement. The Russian side say the further talks will be “long and complicated”.

Russia hopes for the conclusion of a new cooperation agreement with the European Union, but expects that negotiations will be “long and complicated”.

The dialogue has started, however we stand ahead of long and difficult consultations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Igor Lyakin-Frolov told RIA Novosti.

-We expect to compromise on a mutually acceptable document which could define the perspective areas of cooperation, the diplomat added.

Talks on a new partnership and cooperation agreement between Brussels and Moscow was called off by the EU side after the breakout of the Russian-Georgian war. The Union countries in mid-November decided by resume talks with the Russians.

A new EU-Russia meeting on the issue is scheduled to late January, early February, Russia’s top representative in Brussels, Vladimir Chizhov confirms to
