Location

By November 9, AMNGR’s work force on the island Kolguyev had produced the annual planned amount of oil, web pageB-port.com reports.

According to Vladimir Romanov, Head of Department for field development and oil exploration in AMNGR, the company has enhanced focus at making life on the island easier for the workers by supplying them with better equipment etc.

The oil from the Peschanoozerskoye oil field is light and sulfur-free and is in high demand both at the domestic and foreign market.

The Kolguev island is the only place in the Barents Sea where there currently is oil production. The Arktikshelfneftegazrazvedka company has been operating at the island since 1987 and since then 49 wells have been drilled. Current production is modest 40.000 tons per year, as BarentsObserver reported.

The next oil field in operation in area will be the Prirazlomnoe field, which is owned by Gazprom and scheduled to start producing oil in 2011.

Kolguyev Island is an island in the south-eastern Barents Sea (east of the Pechora Sea) to the north-east of the Kanin Peninsula. The approximately circular-shaped island has a diameter of 80 kilometers.
