The companies Dolphin Geophysics and TGS are collecting 3D seismic data from a 1500 square km big area in the Barents Sea.

Location

The mapping takes place in an area north of the North Cape, the company Dolphin Geophysical informs.

-We believe the data collection will be important for the discoveries of resources in this area which stretches eastwards to the formerly disputed waters between Norway and Russia, company representative Kjell Trommestad says to Offshore.no

It is the vessel “M/V Polar Duke” which is carrying out the seismic studies. The operations are to be completed by mid-2012. Several oil companies are behind the mapping. The Cyprus-registered vessel was built in 2010

As previously reported by BarentsObserver, seismic mapping was this year also conducted in the formerly disputed waters between Norway and Russia. As soon as the delimitation agreement had been ratified and the ratification documents exchanged Norway started seismic studies on its side of the border.
