Train will compete with planes on the route from the Finnish capital to Oulu, the largest city in Finland’s part of the Barents Region. The upgrade of the Seinäjoki-Oulu railway will be completed in 2017 at an estimated price-tag of €800 million, reports Helsingin Sanomat.

The upgrade includes total elimination of level crossings on the route between Oulu and Ylivieska and will allow train to speed all the way without slowdowns.

Once the crossings are eliminated, the speed trains will be able to travel the whole distance at speeds of 200 kilometers an hour.

By 2017, you should expect to arrive in Oulu less than five hours after departing from Helsinki central station.
