Meanwhile, also Chinese authorities now consider to start construction of floating nuclear power plants, the newspaper writes. The Russian plans for serial production of floating nuclear power plants have been presented widely both in Russia and internationally. Last year, the project was officially started in the Sevmash yard in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast. This year, Russia’s state nuclear power company Rosatom transferred the assignment to the Baltiiskii Yard in Sankt Petersburg. That did not bring progress to the project. On the contrary, the Russian plans for a series of floating nuclear power plants are far from being materialized, Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports. According to the newspaper, the project designers in the Kurchatov Institute have failed to complete all technical plans. Also necessary normative documents for the projects are still not prepared. In addition, project cost estimates still remain unclear. While, Rosatom first intended to spend five billion RUB on the project, the price tag is now increased to ten billion RUB. -We have all, but not everywhere, not always and not in the sufficient amounts, a representative of the Kurchatov laconically admits to the newspaper. Russia has earlier said that the floating NPPs can be applied in up to eight sights on the northern Russian coast and that there are 20 countries which have expressed interest in the power plants. Now, the Russians fear that the Chinese will speed up their reported plans for their own floating NPPs and compete out Rosatom.
